The MA in Human Rights is the longest running graduate degree program in Human Rights in Asia, and offers unique opportunities to understand how human rights currently are promoted and protected in the region.

The program offers both a comprehensive understanding of human rights in the contemporary world, and also the challenges of applying human rights. Graduates of the program will have excellent research skills for human rights work, alongside an thorough and contemporary theoretical and conceptual knowledge.

The MA in human rights graduates work in a wide variety of sectors such as international organizations (like the UN or ILO), international NGOs, University programs, and other civil society sectors. Graduates can use their knowledge and skills from the program to work in a variety of careers such as program management, research or academic teaching.

The MA programs involves two semesters of coursework (running from August-December and January to April), followed by a semester of individual research under academic  supervision. The Institute takes research practice very seriously, as it intendeds to develop the quality of research in human rights in the Asian region. Students will be trained in researching for human rights, and must undertake a research project which looks at contributing to the protection of human rights standards.
